Scholarship Opportunity

Dear International Student:

Kern County has observed International Women's Day (IWD) and recognized foreign-born women who have made significant contributions to our community every year since 2002. Additionally in 2010, the IWD Board of Directors started to honor international, foreign-born women who are full-time students by awarding scholarships.

To be eligible, you must be a female college student with an "F-1 VISA", attending Bakersfield College (BC) or California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB). 

To apply, you must provide the following:

*    Cover Sheet: Include your name, country of birth, and all contact information (address, phone number(s), and email address).

*     Academic Transcript: Must show full-time student status at BC or CSUB, and a minimum GPA of 3.0 throughout the past academic year.

*    Personal Essay (1000 word maximum): Tell us about yourself and what is important in your life.

*    Two (2) Letters of Recommendation (from college instructors): Instructors must send these letters separate from your application package.  The recommendation letters must be addressed directly to - -

Deadline: Your application, including all required supporting documents and recommendation letters, must be received (not just post-marked) by February 1, 2011, at the appropriate address.  If your application is successful, you will be notified by February 22, 2011.  You must be available to attend the IWD Award event at 6 p.m. on March 8, 2011 at the Seven Oaks Country Club (2000 Grand Lake Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93311).

Only complete applications will be considered.  Your application (not including the recommendation letters to be sent directly to DR. ADJAYE) must be hand delivered, or mailed to the appropriate address below:

(A)   CSUB Students: Mrs. Dagmara Karnowski , Director of International Students at CSUB; or

 

(B)  BC Students: Mrs. Shohreh Rahman, International Students Counselor at Bakersfield College
